THE GRENADE SONG

Standard

Last night’s Karaoke by the Beach brought forth yet another showing of dedicated souls who nail every song they sing.  An old man with a raspy voice touched everyone with his rendition of What a Wonderful World, a young man grabbed the mike and tore it up with the song TNT (I’m Dynomite) and then a beautiful woman brought tears to many eyes with the Grenade song on the below link…

A TOWN ALIVE

Standard

“That’s what happens in Quartzsite, a town too tough to die.”

Wyatt Earp was probably a public domain kind of guy who wouldn’t mind that his quote above was amended to embrace the essence of Quartzsite much like he was doing when back yonder he uttered those words on behalf of Tombstone, Arizona.

I am reminded of yet another quote, from the book HINDS’ FEET ON HIGH PLACES…”I shall not die, but live to declare my works!”

Quartzsite, Arizona has a future that cannot be denied.   The works declared by our little desert town is the fact of it being “the gathering place” for people the world over.

Quartzsite will live to declare her works, and the principle of progress will out-live the details of controversy.  No matter what transpires in August of 2012, the walking paths continue to serve even unto the seventh generation and today’s trees grow strong in shade for the needs of future desert dwellers.

From the moment I stepped foot on our sacred desert ground I knew that Quartzsite was destined to be the gathering place for primal mothers and the children we raise.   Our town is too tough to die because too many are en route to make it their everything…a place of safety from the craziness of city life, a camping pass good for six months, and a welcome mat put out by a mere few thousand townfolk for the sake of serving hundreds of thousands of snowbirds during winter months.

Quartzsite, Arizona is like a woman whose work is never done…that’s why we are too tough to die!

MAUI WOWIE

Standard

For everyone who is living vicariously through my Maui experience, this is how our day unfolded…

We went swimming in the ocean today,  swam laps at the community pool,  sang and danced and played instruments at the park,  walked several miles of stretch along the ocean shore, visited with Canadian tourists who know all about Quartzsite,  went to karaoke at Life’s a Beach where we all shared a group mai tai, checked out the many second hand stores,  danced to Hawaiian music on the beach under the blossoming moon and, of course, started our day at Starbucks on Kihei Road!

And now it’s 3/am at Denny’s for coffee and internet before we make our night march during that darkest before the dawn that leads us through nocturnal uncertainty into the clarity of day.  I am absolutely honored to be delivering the beauty and aloha of Maui to Quartzsite at a time when the darkest just keeps getting darker….grasp onto the promise of a classic song,

BRIDGE OVER TROUBLED WATERS –

Sail on Silver Girl,
Sail on by
Your time has come to shine
All your dreams are on their way

See how they shine
If you need a friend
I’m sailing right behind
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will ease your mind
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will ease your mind

The above pavillion is at Kalama Park in Kihei, Maui where I play music every day with some of the best musicians in the world!  Last night’s jam session included three guitars and two flutes while yesterday morning’s gathering of musicians included guitars, ukuleles, a bass, and a small drum.

Today I played my medley “I LOVE QUARTZSITE” and changed the locale to Kihei…the locals loved it!  I told them all about our beautiful little desert town with a heart so big we can accommodate hundreds of thousands of people every winter.  I am pleased to announce that The HERE TODAY GONE TO MAUI Project has taken on a life of her own as tourists from around the globe listen to the live music emanating from Kalama Park’s Pavillion and share their enthusiasm for the beautiful state of Arizona…my dream bridge is being built one song at a time!

NOVEL MATERIAL

Sidney Sheldon is a good writer in that he has a way of totally surprising the reader with an underlying truth that could never be detected throughout the script…only in hindsight and after much reflection do the faint hues shine through showing the threads of deceit weaved into a novel’s worth of storyline.  How does a story like this end?  Sidney Sheldon would put an added twist that will blow your mind but not until the last page; two paragraphs later the book is over and truth is taking her bow.

Quartzsite, Arizona is getting real close to the last page…

While restaurants all over Maui are preparing to serve their Catch of the Day for islanders and tourists seeking a local fish plate, I would like to take this time to pose the Question of the Day for desert dwellers seeking truth in Quartzsite, Arizona…

What could Martin Brannon, Alex Taft, and Al Johnson possibly be hiding that they would go to such measures from preventing the Council from doing their job?

How is it that these three town workers were able to go from relying on Police Chief Jeff Gilbert to making him their sacrificial lamb…sorry folks, loyalty doesn’t work like that.  Even with the huge Pacific Ocean between me and Quartzsite I can still feel the depth of Chief Gilbert’s character, and those who seek to silence him have forgotten Bob Dylan’s prophetic message:

The line it is drawn
The curse it is cast
The slow one now
Will later be fast
As the present now
Will later be past
The order is
Rapidly fadin’
And the first one now
Will later be last
For the times they are a-changin’.
